About this race
The Lough Cutra Castle Marathon takes place within the stunning private grounds of Lough Cutra Castle in Gort, County Galway, as part of the Castle Race Series Multisport Festival weekend. The marathon course consists of multiple laps of a spectacular 7km estate loop that takes runners through the castle grounds and surrounding South Galway countryside. The route passes by the edge of Lough Cutra, Europe's largest privately owned lake, and through a mix of wooded estate tracks and open countryside paths. The terrain is off-road and multi-surface, offering a scenic and challenging experience rather than a fast flat road race. The course profile is generally undulating, reflecting the natural contours of the estate and surrounding landscape. Runners start at 8:45am. The event takes place in a festival atmosphere with live music, food, and entertainment in the event village.
