About this race

The Tollymore Trail Marathon takes place within Tollymore Forest Park near Newcastle, County Down, at the foot of the Mourne Mountains. The marathon covers two laps of the event's main loop course, which starts and finishes at the forest's main car park and is made up largely of forest gravel roads used for logging and forestry access, with a short section of single track. The route winds past the Shimna River, stone bridges and ancient woodland, climbing steadily from the forest floor toward high points offering views across the Mournes and out to the Irish Sea. The course is hilly and undulating throughout, with several sustained climbs and descents on each lap, and can become rutted or muddy underfoot depending on recent weather. The race is fully waymarked and marshalled, with aid stations positioned around the loop, set against a backdrop of autumn colour in November.
