About this race
The Lough Cutra Castle 10k is a scenic off-road race held within the private grounds of Lough Cutra Castle and the surrounding South Galway countryside, forming part of the Castle Race Series Multisport Festival weekend. The 10k course runs through the stunning estate of Lough Cutra, a Gothic revival castle set on the shore of Europe's largest privately owned lake. The route takes in wooded estate paths and open countryside, offering runners a visually spectacular and unique race environment. The terrain is off-road and multi-surface, with a generally undulating profile that reflects the natural contours of the estate landscape. The event starts at 10:00am on the Sunday of the festival weekend. Runners of all abilities from first-timers to experienced club runners are welcome. The event village provides a lively atmosphere with live music, food and entertainment for participants and supporters throughout the day.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
