About this race

The Corofin Loop 10 mile is a road race based in the village of Corofin, County Galway, just off the M18 motorway. Runners assemble at the local community centre, Dr. Duggan Hall, before setting out on a longer loop of the country roads around the village. Organisers describe the course as having some hills alongside some long flat sections, making it a little more testing than its sister 8k race while still avoiding anything particularly steep or severe. Roads are used rather than closed, so the race starts early on Sunday morning to take advantage of quiet traffic. It is fully marshalled and chip timed, with a strong prize fund on offer for one of the largest permitted road races in the West of Ireland. The event draws big entries from clubs across Galway, Mayo, Clare and further afield each year.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
