About this race

The Tollymore Trail Half Marathon takes place within Tollymore Forest Park near Newcastle, County Down, at the foot of the Mourne Mountains. Runners complete one lap of the event's main loop course, which starts and finishes at the forest's main car park and is made up largely of forest gravel roads used for logging and forestry access, with a short section of single track. The route winds past the Shimna River, stone bridges and ancient woodland, climbing from the forest floor toward high points with views across the Mournes and out to the Irish Sea. The course is hilly and undulating, with sustained climbs and descents, and can become rutted or muddy underfoot depending on recent weather. The race is fully waymarked and marshalled, with aid stations placed around the loop, set against a backdrop of autumn colour in November.
