About this race
The Run Galway Bay Half Marathon starts and finishes at the iconic Nimmo's Pier in the Claddagh, offering a spectacular coastal route through the heart of Galway. The course consists of one short lap followed by two full loops that lead runners along the closed roads of Salthill and the famous promenade. Participants will pass local landmarks such as Blackrock and the Galway Golf Club, all while enjoying panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Clare mountains. Renowned for its exceptionally flat and fast profile, the asphalt terrain is ideal for those seeking a personal best in a professional and scenic setting. The multiple-loop format creates a high-energy atmosphere, with spectators lining the sea-front to cheer on runners throughout the race.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
