About this race

The Ballinskelligs Marathon starts and finishes at the picturesque Ballinskelligs Beach, offering a rugged and scenic single-lap route through the heart of the Skellig Ring. The course guides participants across the Portmagee Bridge and along the coastal paths of Lúb Bhá Fhíonáin, featuring notable landmarks like the Skellig Ring Climb and panoramic ocean views. While the terrain is characterized by persistent rolling hills, the standout challenge is a climb ascent peaking near the 30-kilometer mark of the Coomanaspig Pass. The combination of dramatic elevation changes and stunning coastal scenery makes this marathon a premier endurance test for every runner.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
