About this race

The Lough Cutra Castle Half Marathon forms part of the Castle Race Series Multisport Festival weekend at Lough Cutra Castle, near Gort in County Galway. The half marathon course consists of three laps of a scenic 7km estate loop set entirely within the private castle grounds and surrounding South Galway countryside. Runners pass by the shore of Lough Cutra, Europe's largest privately owned lake, and through wooded estate tracks and open countryside paths that showcase the area's natural beauty. The terrain is off-road and multi-surface, providing a scenic and memorable experience distinct from a conventional road race. The course profile is undulating, reflecting the natural landscape of the estate. The event starts at 10:30am and takes place as part of a full festival weekend with a lively event village, live music, food and entertainment for athletes and supporters alike.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
