About this race
The Tarmonbarry Half Marathon is one of three distances at the annual multi-race event in Tarmonbarry village, County Roscommon, now in its 43rd year. All races start from Tarmonbarry village and follow AAI-measured courses on scenic, quiet rural roads through the Roscommon countryside, finishing back in the village beside St Barry's GAA clubhouse. Tarmonbarry sits on the River Shannon at the border of Roscommon and Longford, and the surrounding roads wind through a largely flat to gently undulating midlands landscape. All distances are chip timed. The half marathon is the most popular of the three distances and draws a strong field from clubs across Connacht and the midlands. The event is well-established in the autumn road racing calendar and typically takes place on the first Sunday of October.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
