About this race
The Dromtrasna Challenge 5K starts and finishes at Dromtrasna National School in Dromtrasna North, near Abbeyfeale in County Limerick. The chip-timed course runs on the public roads of this rural West Limerick community, alongside an accompanying 10K, 4K walk and 2K children's run held on the same day. A new route was introduced for the 10K in recent years, and the 5K shares much of this local country road network. Trophies are awarded to the top three men and women finishers. Now well into its second decade, the event has become a genuine community institution, with proceeds supporting Milford Care Centre, a specialist palliative care provider in Limerick. After the race, participants are welcomed back to the school for a barbecue, hot food, tea and treats, followed by entertainment later that evening at a bar in nearby Abbeyfeale.
