About this race

The Ballinskelligs Half Marathon begins and ends at the iconic Ballinskelligs Beach, offering a spectacular single-lap route along the wild Skellig Coast. The course takes runners through some of Ireland’s most dramatic scenery, providing a breathtaking bird’s-eye view of the Skellig Rock as participants navigate the coastal roads. The terrain is characterized by challenging rolling hills that test endurance while rewarding athletes with panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. Runners will pass significant local landmarks along the rugged shoreline, moving from the sandy start line into the heart of the Skellig Ring. This asphalt route is designed to be both a professional athletic test and a scenic journey through a historic landscape, concluding with a memorable finish right by the water’s edge.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
