About this race

The Royal Canal Run Marathon features a multi-loop paved course that starts and finishes at the Longford Slashers GAA Club, situated right beside the tranquil waters of the Royal Canal. The route travels along the scenic canal banks, navigating a sheltered and picturesque loop that provides participants with expansive views of the local waterways and historic stone bridges. The terrain is exceptionally flat and fast, utilizing a combination of smooth tarmac and tightly packed gravel that is ideal for those chasing a personal best. Runners benefit from the repetitive nature of the circuit, which offers constant encouragement from spectators at the central hub and a traffic-free environment for the entire distance.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
