About this race

The Royal Canal Run 10k features a two-loop paved course that starts and finishes at the Longford Slashers GAA Club, located directly along the banks of the Royal Canal. The route travels along the scenic canal towpath, navigating a sheltered and picturesque circuit that offers peaceful views of the water and historic stone bridges. The terrain is exceptionally flat and fast, utilizing a combination of smooth tarmac and tightly packed surfaces that are ideal for runners aiming for a personal best. Participants enjoy the high-energy atmosphere of the central hub twice during the race, benefiting from a completely traffic-free environment.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
