About this race

The Tarmonbarry 8k is the shortest distance at the annual multi-race event in Tarmonbarry village, County Roscommon, now in its 43rd year. All races start from Tarmonbarry village and follow AAI-measured courses on scenic, quiet rural roads through the Roscommon countryside, finishing back in the village beside St Barry's GAA clubhouse. The village sits on the River Shannon at the border of Roscommon and Longford, and the surrounding roads offer a largely flat to gently undulating course through the midlands landscape. All distances are chip timed. The 8k suits a wide range of abilities and is popular with runners using the day as a tune-up ahead of the autumn marathon season. The event is well-established in the Connacht running calendar and typically takes place on the first Sunday of October each year.
