About this race
The Pier Gates Remembrance 8.5K is a trail race in the Wicklow Mountains, starting at Pier Gates beside the Lough Tay car park near Ballinastoe, County Wicklow. The route is run entirely off-road on forest tracks and trails, with no paved sections, and the course is fully marked. From the start, runners follow a forest track south through the woodland, before reaching a tangle of tracks on the hillside near the Cloghoge river and Lough Dan, where the route loops through the forest in a series of turns. The profile is hilly throughout, with repeated rises and falls, a sustained high section around the middle of the course, and a steep drop to a low point followed by a long climb back up in the second half. The terrain is described by the organisers as easy. The race is held in remembrance of IMRA members.
