About this race
Gaelforce 10K Wicklow is based from Clissmans Horse & Caravan in Clara Vale, County Wicklow, and takes runners through the ancient deciduous woodland of the Vale of Clara. The route is a genuine mixed-terrain trail run, crossing open farmland before dropping onto riverside paths that follow the course of the Avonmore river, then climbing back up through mature oak woodland trails. The going underfoot varies from grass and packed earth to root-covered forest tracks, with some short, sharp climbs through the trees rather than one sustained ascent. As the closing race of the Gaelforce 10K Trilogy, held in early November, the course has a quieter, more autumnal character than its two sister events, with the woodland setting giving it a peaceful, sheltered feel even in poorer weather. It suits runners who enjoy technical, natural trail over manicured paths, finishing back at the event village for a well-earned rest.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
