About this race
The EcoTrail Wicklow 46K starts and finishes on Bray's seafront promenade, in Co. Wicklow. Like the other distances, the route begins with a steep climb up Bray Head before heading into the mountains proper. Runners cross mixed trail terrain over the Little and Great Sugarloaf mountains, passing through the scenic Belmont Estate on the way to the Wicklow Way, the long-distance walking route stretching south from Dublin. The course then reaches the foot of the Powerscourt Waterfall before turning back towards Bray Head, again via Belmont Estate. As the finish approaches, runners are rewarded with views across Dublin Bay before returning to the seafront. The terrain is a mix of trail types typical of the Wicklow Mountains, and cut-offs allow runners who fall behind to drop down onto the shorter 30km course at around the 15km point.
