About this race
The Croí Galway Night Run is a 5k out-and-back route along Salthill Prom, starting and finishing at Mutton Island. From the start, runners head out on the main road towards Blackrock, keeping to one side while the other lane is coned off for the one-way system. The turnaround point is at the "kick wall" just before Blackrock Tower, roughly the halfway mark. From there, runners return along the promenade back to the finish line at Mutton Island. The course is flat, entirely on tarmac, and follows Galway Bay's coastline throughout, making it fast and accessible for walkers, joggers and runners alike. Taking place after dark in October, the route is lit by the prom's normal street lighting plus extra lighting at the start and finish, with many participants wearing high-vis or carrying torches. It is Croí's biggest annual fundraiser, supporting heart and stroke services in the west of Ireland.

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
