About this race
The Cook Medical Limerick Mini Marathon 5k starts and finishes on the grounds of the University of Limerick, beside the UL Sports Arena in Castletroy on the eastern side of the city. Sharing the same base as the longer event, participants gather at the arena and head out on a shorter tarmac loop taking in the university campus and its surrounding roads before returning to finish on the UL athletics track. Open to runners, joggers and walkers of every level, it follows largely flat, traffic-managed ground that suits first-timers, families and those pushing buggies. The pleasant riverside campus setting and relaxed, festive atmosphere are central to the day's appeal. Long established as a leading mass-participation event in the Mid-West, it grew from a women's mini marathon and now welcomes all, with many taking part to raise money for chosen charities.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
