About this race
The Ardagh Challenge 10 mile is a road run that starts in the centre of the village of Ardagh in south County Longford. The first two miles loop scenically around the village before the course climbs over Ardagh Mountain, and the final half mile returns through the village to the finish. The route map shows a mix of paved roads and unclassified surfaces, with the profile climbing steeply to a high point on the mountain, followed by a long descent into a flat middle section and a gradual climb back up towards the village at the end. The event is held between Christmas and the New Year and is organised by the Ardagh Moydow Glen Community Games Committee, with chip timing. Cash prizes have been offered for the first three men and women, making it a popular and demanding winter challenge.
