About this race
The Stook 10 Mile starts and finishes in the village of Dungarvan in County Kilkenny and follows a loop of country roads through the Kilkenny countryside. The opening miles are largely flat, running through gentle valleys. After the flat opening section the course begins a long, steady climb towards Stook Hill, which marks the high point of the route in the later stages. From the summit the road descends for a long stretch, giving runners a fast finish back towards the village. Billed by the organisers as a fair but challenging route, it rewards sensible pacing on the early flat section and strong legs on the climb. The race is organised by Gowran AC, holds an Athletics Ireland permit, and finishers receive a cowbell and refreshments. A 10k and a 5k run alongside it.
