About this race
The Tullaroan Festival of Running Marathon is organised by Tullaroan Athletics Club and takes place on a two-loop course covering the rural roads of Tullaroan, Co. Kilkenny. Each loop follows the same scenic circuit that forms the half marathon course, meaning marathon runners complete two full laps of the undulating route through the Kilkenny countryside. The rolling hills and open farmland roads provide a challenging but rewarding setting. All finishers receive the popular Tullaroan t-shirt and a bespoke medal. The event is chip-timed and supported by water stations, with post-race refreshments and bar access available at the finish in the village. A team competition operates across four distances, adding a competitive team element to the festival.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
