About this race
The Cook Medical Limerick Mini Marathon 10k starts and finishes on the grounds of the University of Limerick, beside the UL Sports Arena in Castletroy on the city's eastern edge. Runners, joggers and walkers set off together from the arena before following a measured tarmac route around the university campus and surrounding roads, with the field returning to finish on the UL athletics track. A water station is positioned at roughly the halfway point to support participants over the longer distance. The setting on the leafy riverside campus gives the event an open, parkland feel, and the largely flat surroundings make it accessible to all abilities. One of the Mid-West's best established mass-participation events, it began as a women's mini marathon and now welcomes everyone, with most taking part to raise funds for local, regional and national charities.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
