About this race
The Streets of Killarney 5 Mile starts on the grounds of Killarney House and Gardens, on the edge of Killarney National Park. From there the flat, fast route heads through the park before crossing Port Road and entering the town centre, where runners complete two laps of a circuit taking in New Street, High Street, New Road and Port Road, passing close to Killarney Cathedral along the way. The finish line is on Beech Road, near the Killarney tourist office. Run entirely on closed roads and park pathways, the course is tarmac throughout and largely flat, making it well suited to fast times. Large crowds line the streets of the town centre to cheer runners on, giving the race a strong local atmosphere. Held annually on Good Friday evening, it has quickly become a fixture on the Kerry running calendar since its inaugural edition.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
