About this race
The Great Railway Run 25k is a point-to-point road race from Cork city to Carrigaline in County Cork. It starts on Monahan Road in Cork with a 2.6km opening loop, then joins the route of the old Cork, Blackrock and Passage Railway, following the line through Blackrock, Mahon, Rochestown, Passage, Monkstown, Raffeen and Shanbally along the shore of Cork Harbour. The race finishes at the Lions Youth Centre on Church Road in Carrigaline. The course is run almost entirely on paved surfaces and is predominantly flat, with the long railway-line section largely level and the only noticeable rises coming in the closing kilometres towards Carrigaline. A bus runs between the finish and the start for runners who register for it. The event is organised by Carrigaline & District Lions Club with the support of Carrigaline AC, and is a popular test of pace before the Cork City Marathon.
