About this race
The Farranfore St Stephen's Day Road Race 5k is a traditional out-and-back course, run annually on the same route since 1961. Starting and finishing at the Kerry Mill in Farranfore, the course follows the road west towards Firies, turns near the Firies crossroads and returns by the same route to the finish. The road is closed to traffic, with stewards and water stations along the way. The surface is fully paved and the profile is gently rolling: a short rise shortly after the start is followed by a long, gradual descent to the turnaround, so the return leg climbs gradually back towards Farranfore, with a last rise before a short descent to the finish. Number collection is at the sports hall in Farranfore, and a 2k family fun run or walk is held alongside the 5k. Organised by Farranfore Maine Valley AC.
