About this race
The Rosscarbery Surf Turf 'n' Tar Half Marathon is a multi-terrain race taking in road, beach, forest and trail running across Rosscarbery and the West Cork coastline. Starting first at 9am ahead of the 10k, the course sweeps through the Castlefreke Estate, runs along Owenahincha beach, traverses the Cliff Walk, crosses Warren Strand, and finishes on Pier Road beside the Celtic Ross Hotel race HQ. The route is scenic and undulating, with ever-changing terrain underfoot throughout. The eighth edition of the event takes place on 25 April 2026, organised by Rosscarbery Business Association in conjunction with Rosscarbery Steam Runners AC, with all proceeds supporting community initiatives in the Rosscarbery area. Entry is €45 and places are capped at 1,000 across both distances.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
