About this race
The Run Galway Bay 10k offers a scenic and invigorating experience starting and finishing at the historic Nimmo's Pier in the Claddagh. The single-loop route takes participants along the picturesque coastline, passing through the heart of Salthill and along one of Europe’s longest promenades. Runners will enjoy breathtaking views of the wild Atlantic Ocean and the distant Clare mountains as they navigate past landmarks like Blackrock and the local golf club. This course is renowned for being exceptionally flat and fast, making it a premier choice for those aiming to set a personal best. The asphalt terrain remains smooth throughout, providing a professional and spectator-friendly atmosphere right on the edge of Galway City.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
