About this race
The Rosscarbery Surf Turf 'n' Tar 10k is a multi-terrain race set in Rosscarbery and the surrounding West Cork coastline, forming part of a double-distance event also offering a Half Marathon. The course combines road, beach, forest and trail running, taking participants through the Castlefreke Estate, along Owenahincha beach, over the Cliff Walk, across Warren Strand, and back via a pontoon across the estuary to finish on Pier Road adjacent to the Celtic Ross Hotel, which serves as race HQ. The route is undulating and varied underfoot. Organised by Rosscarbery Business Association in conjunction with Rosscarbery Steam Runners AC, all proceeds go back into the local community. The race is chip-timed and capped at 1,000 places across both distances. Registration is €35 per entry.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
