About this race
The Rhode AC Marathon is organised by Rhode Athletic Club and takes place on Saturday 19 September 2026 at 8:30am in Rhode, County Offaly. The course starts and finishes at Rhode National School and initially takes runners through Rathcobican, Ballybryan, Fahy and into Rhode village and back before joining the Grand Canal. The bulk of the marathon consists of three flat 11km loops along the scenic Grand Canal towpath, finishing at the school lay-by. The course is entirely flat and well-suited to runners seeking a personal best. Event HQ is Rhode Parish Hall. The event is chip timed and organised through Pop Up Races, with the 2026 edition marking the second year of the race and the addition of new distances.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
