About this race
The Monaghan Phoenix Marathon starts and finishes at the main car park in Rossmore Forest Park, Killydrutan, County Monaghan, a forest voted the most popular in Ireland. The AAI permitted, officially measured course runs entirely through the park's forest trails and pathways, giving runners a scenic, largely sheltered 26.2 mile route away from public roads. As part of the wider Monaghan Phoenix Marathon Festival weekend, which also includes a Saturday 10K and the half marathon on the same Sunday morning, it's regularly cited as one of the best-value marathons in Ireland. Post-race refreshments are provided both along the course and at the finish, with every finisher receiving a bespoke medal and technical t-shirt, and full results chip timed. Now in its twelfth year, the event is proudly supported by local sponsors including Mallons Sausages, Magill Jewellers and Monaghan Credit Union, drawing entrants from across Ireland to this forest setting in the Ulster countryside.
