About this race
The Monaghan Phoenix Half Marathon starts and finishes at the main car park in Rossmore Forest Park, Killydrutan, County Monaghan, a forest voted the most popular in Ireland. The AAI permitted, officially measured course runs entirely through the park's forest trails and pathways, giving a scenic, largely sheltered route away from public roads. As part of the wider Monaghan Phoenix Marathon Festival weekend, which also includes a Saturday 10K, the half marathon is widely used by runners as ideal training mileage ahead of the Dublin City Marathon in the following weeks. Post-race refreshments are provided both along the course and at the finish, with every finisher receiving a bespoke medal and technical t-shirt, and full results chip timed. Now in its twelfth year, the event is proudly supported by local sponsors including Mallons Sausages, Magill Jewellers and Monaghan Credit Union, and is regularly described as one of the best-value marathon weekends in Ireland.
