About this race

The Gortin 5mile is a chip-timed road race starting at the entrance to St Patrick's Primary School on Main Street, Gortin, and finishing at the entrance to the Owenkillew Community Centre. The course follows the flat roads of the Owenkillew valley, surrounded by the scenic hills and valleys of the Sperrin Mountains. The route is described as fast and flat, ideal for personal bests, and runs along quiet roads through the picturesque village and its surrounds. Organised by Gortin GAA Club and Omagh Harriers, the race caters for all abilities and is run in a community-focused atmosphere.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.

Loop Course type
2m limit 8.0m Start/finish drop
0.23km limit 4.0km Start/finish separation
