About this race
The Garden County 5k is an evening run and walk based in the village of Tinahely in south County Wicklow, the county long known as the Garden of Ireland. Run on a beautiful quiet country road, the out-and-back style course is on rural tarmac and welcomes runners, joggers and walkers of all abilities, with walkers accommodated in the 5k. Registration takes place at Tinahely Community Hall, with the race setting off in the evening for a relaxed summer outing through the peaceful Wicklow countryside. Chip timed by Pop Up Races and organised by the Bling Hunters running group, the event is known for its choice of bespoke finisher medals and friendly, inclusive atmosphere. A virtual option allows those who cannot attend to complete the distance in their own area. With its scenic rural setting and welcoming community spirit, it is a popular fixture that draws a strong local and visiting field each year.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
