About this race
The Limerick Night Run is a 5k road race held after dark in Limerick city, starting and finishing at King John's Castle Plaza on King's Island. The flat, fast course heads out through the historic streets of the city, taking in Nicholas Street, Patrick Street and O'Connell Street before continuing along The Crescent and O'Connell Avenue as far as Punches Cross. From there the route loops back through the illuminated city centre to a castle-side finish beside the River Shannon. Run entirely on tarmac roads that are closed and marshalled for the event, the course passes some of Limerick's best-known landmarks under floodlights and street lighting. Timed to coincide with the city's Twilight Thursdays night-time events programme around Halloween, the run has a festive, costume-party atmosphere, with many participants running in fancy dress alongside more serious club runners chasing a fast time.
