About this race
The Westport Marathon starts from its own start line in the Quay area of Westport and finishes at Westport Boat Park on The Quay, where all of the event's distances finish. The route runs through the town of Westport, countryside and coastal roads along the Wild Atlantic Way beside Clew Bay, passing Murrisk and Lecanvey on the coast road towards Old Head. The course is almost entirely on paved road, and has a rolling profile with several short climbs and descents along the coast rather than any sustained hills. The setting, with the bay on one side and the open Mayo countryside on the other, is a major part of the event's appeal, and thousands of runners take part across the marathon, half marathon and 10k each April. Organisers note that routes are provisional and subject to change.
