About this race
The Westport Half Marathon follows a scenic out-and-back paved route that starts and finishes at Westport Quay (Roman Island), offering a picturesque journey along the shores of Clew Bay. The course travels through the historic Westport Railway Walk and along the sheltered Greenway, with the imposing peak of Croagh Patrick providing a constant backdrop. The terrain features some rolling coastal sections and steady drags typical of the Wild Atlantic Way. Runners navigate a well-marshaled circuit through the village of Murrisk and past the Famine Memorial Park before returning for a celebratory finish near the Towers slip road.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
