About this race
The Sylvester Hiemstra Memorial 3k Handicap is a short road race in Milford, County Donegal, organised by Milford AC and held in memory of Sylvester Hiemstra. As a handicap race, runners are set off at staggered start times according to ability, so that runners of all speeds can finish close together. The course is a fully paved loop on roads around the east side of the village. Starting on the south-eastern edge of Milford, runners head briefly south-east, then turn north and follow a long, straight road away from the village. The route then turns south-west and runs back down towards Milford, finishing in the village. The profile is gentle, with a small rise around the two-kilometre mark and an overall net descent from start to finish, making it a fast course over the short distance.
