About this race
The Lough Key Forest Park 10K starts and finishes beside the lake in the Lough Key Forest and Activity Park near Boyle, and is about 90 percent off road. The route combines a loop around the wooded lakeshore peninsula towards McDermott's Castle, a section on woodland tracks above Erris Bay, and an extension south-west to the edge of the park near the Curlews Bypass, returning along the main park road. Surfaces are mostly forest track and dirt paths with some paved sections. The first half is largely flat, while the second half rolls with several short, sharp climbs before a flat run back to the finish. The course is chip timed and run alongside the 5K as part of the Chris O'Dowd Challenge, organised by North West Roscommon GAA.
