Elevation profile

About this race

The Fields of Athenry 10k starts behind the train station and follows a scenic, undulating loop through the rural roads of East Galway. The course is known for a steady climb, or "long drag," shortly after the first left turn, followed by rolling countryside and four main left-hand bends. The final kilometer offers a fast, flat stretch that leads runners directly back into the historic town center to finish under the iconic medieval North Gate arch.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.

Loop Course type
