About this race

The Gingerbread Run is a 10k race held on the forest trails of Donadea Forest Park in Co. Kildare. The course consists of two laps of a 5k loop that winds through the woodland paths of the historic estate, passing close to the ruined castle and lake near the start/finish area, on mixed trail and forest track surfaces rather than road. There are no official pacers, but a lead bike guides runners around the route, with marshals stationed along the way to keep everyone on course. The race is run on the wide, well-established walking and cycling trails that wind through the forest park. Multiple waves start through the morning and early afternoon, spreading runners out across the trails. Finishers receive a medal, a gingerbread muffin and a bobble hat at the end, with the event's festive, community atmosphere adding to its popularity in the run-up to Christmas.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
