About this race
Ireland's Medieval Mile Run takes place through the heart of Kilkenny city as part of the annual Yulefest Kilkenny festival. The one-mile course starts at James Stephens Barracks and follows a fast, largely flat route across St Francis Abbey Bridge, up through Irishtown and onto High Street, before finishing outside Kilkenny Castle on The Parade. The final stretch includes a short rise up to the finish line. Run entirely on city streets, the course is lit with Christmas lights and lined with spectators, with a live DJ adding to the festive atmosphere. The event offers both a chip-timed race, aimed at competitive runners chasing sub-4-minute and sub-4:35 mile times, and a free, untimed run open to walkers, joggers and families. It has become a fixture of Kilkenny's Christmas calendar and a popular season opener for road runners around the country.
