About this race

This unique charity half marathon takes place entirely on beautiful Inishbofin Island, situated on Connemara's Wild Atlantic Way. The route starts and finishes at the Inishbofin Community Centre and follows the island's quiet roads through a mix of flat and gently inclined terrain. Runners pass pristine beaches, open bogland, and enjoy spectacular views of the Connemara mountains across the water throughout the course. The surface is tarmac road throughout, with the route meandering around the island's scenic perimeter roads. The race is held in aid of Down Syndrome Galway and registration includes a return ferry ticket from Cleggan pier and a post-race BBQ with live music. The event is open to all levels, from serious runners to those wishing to walk or jog.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
