About this race

The Athlone 10 Mile Run starts and finishes in Clonown village, south of Athlone, on a course that uses much of the same route as the former Athlone Flatline Half Marathon. The course is very flat throughout, running on tarmac roads through the quiet rural countryside of south Roscommon. Its reputation for being one of the flattest 10-mile courses in Ireland makes it a popular choice for runners targeting personal bests. The route is an Athletics Ireland measured course with chip timing for all finishers. Cash prizes are awarded to category winners and a bespoke Athlone 10 Mile medal is presented to every finisher. The event is organised by Clonown Community Ltd and is open to runners aged 18 and over. Registration is available online in advance at competitive early bird prices.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
