About this race
The Wild Atlantic 10 Miler starts on Belleek Castle Road in Belleek, on the edge of Ballina town in County Mayo, and finishes at the Ballina Athletic Club track. The Jones counter certified course runs through the picturesque Belleek Woods, following the banks of the River Moy for much of the way. From there the route joins sections of the Wild Atlantic Way and the Monasteries of the Moy Greenway, a converted former railway line, before heading back towards the finish. The surface is entirely road and greenway path, and the course is described by organisers as relatively flat. Walkers are welcome and start earlier, from the athletics track at 11am. Every participant receives a technical tee-shirt and a bespoke finisher medal, with water stations on course, cash prizes and trophies for the leading men and women, plus age category prizes for men and women over 40, 50 and 60.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
