About this race
The Mile Marker 5k is an annual fundraising road race held at St Michael's National School in Danesfort, Co. Kilkenny. Now in its seventh year, the event raises funds for the school. The 5k follows an out-and-back course starting and finishing outside the GAA grounds adjacent to the school, on local tarmac roads. A water station is available at the turnaround point. Roads remain open during the event with traffic management in place. The course features a couple of rolling sections early on before becoming very flat towards the finish, with the final 150 metres on grass at the rear of the school. Race start is 12 noon, with a 1-Mile family dash at 11:40am. On-day registration is available from 9am.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
