About this race

The Shandrum AC 4mile follows a circular, entirely paved route that starts near the church grotto in Newtownshandrum and finishes at the local GAA hall. The course travels toward Charleville before turning onto rural local roads and looping back via the Shandrum graveyard and the 2 Mile cross. The terrain is characterized as relatively level throughout(net downhill), though it features a gentle incline on the approach to the finish line. Participants navigate a series of left turns on open, marshaled roads that provide a consistent tarmac surface.

Course profile & record eligibility

World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.

Loop Course type

0.75km limit 3.2km Start/finish separation
