About this race
The Ronan Clarke 5k run and walk is an annual charity event based from Killala Community Centre in Killala, Co. Mayo. The course runs on local tarmac roads in and around the coastal town of Killala, departing from and returning to the Community Centre. The event is fully marshalled and open to runners and walkers of all ages and abilities, including junior categories. Organised each year by Killala GAA Club and the Clarke family in memory of Ronan Clarke, who passed away in 2014, the race raises funds for the Mayo/Roscommon Hospice and the Killala GAA Benevolent Fund. On-day registration is available from 10:30am. The race starts at 12 noon, with presentations and refreshments at the Community Centre afterwards.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
