About this race
The Inner City 5k is a road race staged in the heart of Dublin's north inner city, organised by the Inner City Running Club, a community-based club founded around the Henrietta Street area. The course runs on closed and marshaled city-centre streets, taking runners on a flat loop through the historic Georgian streetscape near King's Inns and the surrounding inner-city neighbourhoods. Run almost entirely on tarmac, the route is fast and largely flat, well suited to runners of all abilities including wheelchair participants, who are a longstanding part of the event. Supported by An Garda Síochána, Dublin City Council, and Athletics Ireland, the race has grown rapidly into one of the capital's most distinctive community events. A strong focus on fun, inclusion, and bringing local people together gives the event a warm and celebratory atmosphere each year.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind.
