About this race
The Galway 5km Series is a well-established series of six Tuesday evening road races held at different locations across County Galway each spring. The Loughrea leg, the second race in the 2026 series, takes place on chip-timed roads in and around the town of Loughrea. The course is flat to gently undulating and run entirely on tarmac roads, starting and finishing at a central point in the town. The series is known for its no-frills format and consistently attracts several hundred runners of all abilities from clubs throughout Connacht. All six legs are covered by a single series entry, which includes a souvenir race t-shirt.
Course profile & record eligibility
World Athletics record-eligibility rules cap net elevation loss at 1m per km of race distance, and require the start and finish to be no more than 50% of the race distance apart — both meant to stop a course gaining an unfair edge from downhill grade or a point-to-point tailwind. This is based on this course's recorded elevation and GPS data, not an official measurement or certification.
